My name is Jakob Thompson and I've spent my entire life finding ways to enjoy nature. Whether it be hunting, fishing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking, camping and everything in between, I've done it. If you're anything like me, you're always looking to what adventures the next season will bring.
Along my journey I've come across some amazing gear that I can't go without and I'm here to share it with you. If you're looking for a great piece of equipment to make your next outing a success, you'll be able to find it here at Bull Trout Outdoors.
And don't worry, I'm going to do the hard work for you! You'll be able to read about what makes each piece of equipment awesome and why you might want it. You'll also be able to make comparisons against each piece of gear's leading competitor, and I'll provide links to purchase every item I post about, even if I don't make a dollar doing it.

Do You Really Need More Gear?
This question is, of course, dependent on multiple factors such as; what activity are you planning, where will it take place, do you already have the equipment needed, are you getting by with sub-par items, will you be comfortable with what you already have, are you prepared for a worst-case scenario, and will new gear make you better?
Let's tackle this.
For example, let's say I'm planning a moose hunt in Alaska. I've always deer and elk hunted in the lower 48, and I have lots of hunting equipment and garments. but there's absolutely some gear I would NEED. Maybe a spotting scope to let my eyes do the hiking for me, maybe some packable hip waders for crossing streams, maybe I need a way to contact emergency services via satellite, maybe I need a way to make fire when everything is wet. The point is you need to know what you'll be up against no matter what activity you choose whether it's mountain biking, or going for a hike.
Will new gear make me better?
My father always told me it would not, and to an extent I agree, however, I've had multiple instances where quality gear made all the difference. An obvious example is one year while snowboarding, my goggles would not stop fogging up and it made the entire experience miserable. I could hardly see what was in front of me and kept falling, hard. The next week I came back with a pair of the most expensive goggles I could afford and even with less-than-ideal skiing conditions I felt like I owned the mountain. Sometimes better gear does make you better.
Bull Trout Outdoors is dedicated to finding the best gear for all types of outdoor activities to keep you safer, more comfortable, and have a better quality experience in Nature.
